Informatics in education

The 'Ict and informatics a globalized world of education' conference aims at bringing together teachers, researchers and administrators who have a stake in teaching and learning about Ict and informatics or teaching and learning with the help of Ict. It is jointly organized by several Ifip (International federation of information processing) working groups and will be held at the Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa, Kenya on August 16-19, 2011.

Doctoral students, newly qualified teachers and young people are invited to contribute their perspectives. A special invitation is addressed to East African teachers, professors, graduate students and policy makers. The main themes of the conference are new developments of Ict in education, life-long learning, distance education and new developments in informatics teaching. These should be discussed in relation to past experiences and future expectations, in developed and less developed countries and as they relate to secondary and higher education. Subthemes are: constructivist approaches and knowledge creation with Web 2.0 and beyond; implications of Web 2.0 and beyond for informatics teaching; approaches for creative learning in informatics, opportunities and models for informal and non-formal life-long learning, for digital literacy and se-rious gaming; distance and mobile learning and on line education; ethical models for pluralistic and inter-cultural understanding in multi-cultural societies.

A book of abstracts, including paper abstracts, details of panels, workshops, focus groups and adversarial debates, will be published and made available to conference attendees. All full and short papers, together with the text from the book of abstracts, will be published on a conference Cd-rom. All conference attendees will receive a copy. Selected papers will be published in a special edition of the internationally refereed journal 'Education and information technologies'.

Deadline for paper and proposed contributions is February 15, 2011
